First Standalone 5G Standards EmergeCellular carriers would like to have their new 5G networks up by the end of 2018 or early 2019. One problem: they need a set of standards to create the new technology. Last weekend, tech representatives met and made significant first step for technology companies to start building out the necessary 5G chips and software. Recently Google logged over four million road miles with its autonomous vehicles. Uber logged just over one million. Such rich data is necessary for onboard deep-learning systems to “think” and react to varying real-world road conditions. Despite such progress, however, a recent article in the Verge calls into question how soon we’ll have autonomous vehicles and points the finger at the development (or lack thereof) in artificial intelligence.
